And so, on a Thursday that smelled faintly of tequila and diesel, Hotmess Express was spotted once more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was not walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was not arriving by official motorcade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was rolling down the digital highway toward the Capital in her personal tank, a battered, slightly sparkly beast she\u2019d named Tequila Sunrise<\/em>, one hand on the hatch, the other wrapped around a salt-rimmed margarita the size of a small child. The glass had a little umbrella. The umbrella had a tiny flag that read \u201cAGAIN.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Witnesses later described the scene as \u201cinspirational\u201d and \u201ca DUI with extra steps.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The tank\u2019s engine growled like it had also been drinking. Every few seconds the turret would rotate slightly as Hotmess leaned out, toasting passing traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTo the people!\u201d she shouted, sloshing lime juice onto the armor. \u201cTo the 602! To whoever left the good snacks in the officers\u2019 lounge last time!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n A nearby scout vehicle swerved politely out of the way. Its driver later posted, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I should salute or call AAA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n By the time she reached the Capital steps, a small crowd had gathered. Some held signs. One sign simply read \u201cPLEASE DON\u2019T PARK ON THE FOUNTAIN THIS TIME.\u201d Another said \u201cWELCOME BACK MOM.\u201d A third was just a picture of a margarita with devil horns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hotmess brought the tank to a stop with the kind of precision that suggested she\u2019d practiced this exact arrival in her garage at 2 a.m. She climbed out, nearly missed the last rung of the ladder, recovered with the grace of someone who has fallen off many things before, and raised her glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy fellow 602ers,\u201d she declared, voice already carrying that familiar mix of affection and impending incident reports. \u201cYou voted. You memed. You somehow still trust me. I am here for another two weeks. I have brought snacks. I have brought chaos. The first executive order was rumored to involve extra nachos. And somewhere in the distance, the tank\u2019s engine idled contentedly, waiting for the next victory parade\u2026 or the next last call.
