Texas District 9 Outshine Delaware District 3 in Softball Showdown at Senior Little League World Series

The stage was set for an epic rematch as Delaware D3 faced off against Texas D9 in the second pool game of the Senior Softball Little League World Series. This was the third time these teams faced each other in 365 days. These two teams played for the World Series title a year ago and Texas walked away with the victory and lead the series 2-0. Last nights game provided a thrilling display of skill and power, with District 9 emerging victorious with a final score of 5-1.

From the very beginning, District 9’s, Christi McGuire showcased her power at the plate, launching a towering shot over the center field wall in the first inning to give her team an early 1-0 lead. The first inning ended without a response from District 3 Delaware.

The exhibition progressed intensely, and both teams’ pitchers held their ground in the second inning, keeping the score at 1-0. However, D9’s explosive lineup showed no signs of slowing down. In the top of the third inning, Ky-Li Alonzo connected with a 1-0 pitch, sending it soaring over the right field wall for a remarkable home run, adding two more runs to D9’s lead, making it 3-0. The impressive shot garnered attention due to the estimated distance the ball traveled.

As the fourth and fifth innings went scoreless, Delaware managed to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Ashlyn Ullman’s groundout brought Sophie Scurci home, reducing the deficit to 4-1. However, the Texas dominance remained unchallenged, and they secured their victory with a resounding performance in the seventh inning.

Yasmine Traore from Academy, Texas left her mark on Roxana with a solo home run, making her presence known in the Little League World Series. Delaware tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but D9’s defense stood firm, denying any scoring opportunities and sealing the game with a 5-1 victory.

Christi McGuire proved to be a true asset for Texas, excelling both in the circle and at the plate. She pitched an impressive 7 innings, allowing only 5 hits giving up 1 run while recording 5 strikeouts. Her defensive plays to first base were instrumental in securing crucial outs throughout the game. Additionally, McGuire’s bat proved to be just as dangerous, going 2 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Ky-Li Alonzo showcased her hitting might, going 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs, while Yasmine Traore made her mark with a powerful hit, contributing 1 RBI. Miah Corona also shone in the batter’s box, going 3 for 1 with an RBI, displaying the depth of D9’s offensive firepower.

With this commanding victory, D9’s impressive performance over the two games speaks volumes about their power hitting, recording a total of 14 hits, 15 runs batted in, and 5 home runs in the two games they have played in pool play.

As the Senior Little League World Series continues, all eyes will be on District 9, a team poised to make a significant impact in the championship race.
